Количество раз, которое одна денежная единица меняет своего владельца в течение определенного периода. Скорость обращения высока, когда люди не хотят держать на руках много денег и, следовательно, быстрее передают их из рук в руки (т.е. покупают товары и услуги) — так бывает в периоды высокой инфляции. С.о.д. как экономический показатель — число раз, которое номинальная денежная масса обращается за год в процессе финансирования совокупных расходов или доходов. Измеряется в виде отношения номинального ВНД к номинальной денежной массе — это называется скоростью обращения денег через доходы (income velocity оf money). С.о.д. является одним из важнейших факторов, определяющих темпы инфляции — особенно в периоды резкого перехода от одного макроэкономического состояния к другому (например, от низких темпов инфляции к высоким и наоборот, от высоких к низким). Феномен, который называется “бегство от денег”, приводит к огромному увеличению С.о.д.
